E-Cycling Events

Register now to volunteer for our next E-Cycling Event on January 11!

Rain or shine, participants can recycle old cellphones, used vehicle batteries, personal electronic items, unneeded prescriptions, plastic bags, and more at this free event. The event will be a drive-through in the Aquarium’s East Parking Lot with participating vendors including AAA Tidewater Virginia, Goodwill Industries, Virginia Beach Police Department, NexTrex plastic recycling, and the 911 Cellphone Bank, where old cellphones will be refurbished and donated to victims of human trafficking.

How to Register to Volunteer for E-Cycling

Determine if you are an Individual, a Team Member, or a Team Captain:

  • Individual - Participants who are volunteering independently and not with anyone else. Continue to Step 2.
    (NOTE: Participants under 18 may not register as Individuals. Even a parent registering with a child is considered a Group, with the Parent as the Team Captain.)
  • Group - Two or more participants who want to volunteer together.
    Each Group must have a Name and one person assigned as the Team Captain. All others in the Group are Team Members.
    After determining if you are a Team Captain or a Team Member, continue to Step 3.

Click the REGISTER FOR E-CYCLING button to access the form.
Please note: Team Members will need to know the name of their Group. Team Captains will need to know the Group name and the total number of participants in the Group, including themselves.

Under Registration Type select either Individual, Team Member, or Team Captain, then select the specific event or events you wish to register for.

Fill out the entire form completely and then click SUBMIT.

Creek Cleanup

A monthly volunteer opportunity! Trash that finds its way into the ocean can travel long distances with the currents and winds. Plastic bags and plastic wrap can suffocate marine animals and fish. Birds can easily entangle themselves in plastic six-pack rings and strings. Animals can also get sick or die from swallowing trash, such as cigarette butts. Humans, animals, and plants all need unpolluted water to survive. We welcome volunteers to join us as we clean up the natural area around Owls Creek!

Dune Planting

Check back later for upcoming events! Sand dunes act as natural barriers, protecting land by preventing erosion and absorbing wave energy. Without this protection, soft coastline would rapidly disappear. We need your help to plant native dune grasses and restore habitat for local wildlife and protect the shoreline.Join the National Aquarium's Conservation team, in partnership with the Commander Navy Region Mid-Atlantic, the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Mid-Atlantic and the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, to restore valuable sand dune habitat in Virginia Beach.
