Amy Stitcher Professional Headshot

Virginia Beach, VA – After a competitive and thorough process, the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center has hired Amy Stitcher as the new Chief Finance Officer (CFO). Stitcher joined the Aquarium staff in February and leads the accounting and finance team.

“With her breadth of experience in the finance sector and with non-profit work, Amy fits into our team perfectly! The Aquarium is lucky to have her,” said Cynthia Whitbred-Spanoulis, President, and Chief Executive Officer of the Virginia Aquarium. “We are thrilled to see what she does in her new role, and excited to welcome her to the team.”

Stitcher has a background leading finance and accounting functions with many healthcare organizations, bringing valuable non-profit experience to this new role. Stitcher began her career working at CPA firms in Maryland and Arizona. She made the transition from the public sector to the private sector in 2004 and began non-profit work in 2006.

“I am proud of my time working for non-profits and look forward to the opportunities ahead at the Aquarium,” said Amy Stitcher, CFO of the Virginia Aquarium. “Non-profit work and working for a local government give you the chance to make a difference in the community. It is incredibly fulfilling to be a part of a team working to help the Virginia Aquarium grow and evolve to fulfill its mission.”

Stitcher is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Virginia Society of CPAs, and the Maryland Association of CPAs. Originally from the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Stitcher is a new Virginia resident and City of Virginia Beach employee.
