Virginia Beach, VA – Debuting September 24, the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center invites guests to discover the vital role of pollinators at the new seasonal exhibit, Amazing Pollinators. Created by Minotaur Mazes, Amazing Pollinators is a role-play adventure immersing guests into the world of pollinator and plant relationships, such as bats with fruit crops, bees with brightly colored flowers, and beetles with large, bowl-shaped flowers.
Designed as a maze, guests must think like a pollinator and navigate the many challenges pollinators face each day to find their way through the exhibit. There are 48 pollinator survival missions – from birds, butterflies, moths, flies and more. Flutter through the interactive exhibits as a hibiscus bee, soldier beetle or ruby-throated hummingbird to accomplish the mission and earn the reward of learning how pollinators support our ecosystems and their importance to our food supply.
The exhibit also engages guests with ways to help pollinators at home and within the community as well as a chance to build their own powerful pollinator. There will be a game parlor within the exhibit space to play classic games with a twist, like mason bee mancala, invasive species shuffleboard, mutualism dominoes and more.
For people of all ages, this clever, bilingual (English and Spanish) exhibit sparks interest in the natural world, spurs at-home observation of plants and pollinators, and provides an astounding magnitude of science and nature education.
Amazing Pollinators is included in Aquarium admission and will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning September 24 through December 31. Purchase tickets on the Virginia Aquarium’s website to join the buzz. Guests are encouraged to dress in their favorite pollinator costume!
